How to Protect yourself from Internet Fraud

  1. Ensure that your complete account number is written on each leaf of the cheque book.
  2. Do not hand over signed blank cheques even for EMI. Before handing over to any person / Finance Company / Bank, ensure these are duly filled-in (Complete and leaving no room for addition / modification and properly signed).
  3. Ensure proper custody of the cheque book.
  4. Don’t leave blank signed cheque leaves lying around.
  5. As far as possible, issue crosses / account payee cheques only.
  6. Don’t leave samples of specimen signatures on your pass book or cheque book.
  7. In case the cheque book in requisitioned from the bank through authorised representative, please keep track on the receipt, count and tally the cheques with number of cheques supplied. Do send acknowledgement of cheque book to the branch.

Precautions for cards

  1. Change you pin of debit card on the first time use and from time to time.
  2. In case you lose your card, inform the call centre immediately for hot-listing / blocking.
  3. Do not allow anyone to use your card.
  4. Memorize your pin and do not store the same.
  5. Memorize last three digits of CVV number printed on the reverse side of the card and hide it by blackening.
  6. Always have the card swiped in your presence.
  7. Some payment gateways ask for a four digit pin while swiping the card. In such situations please enter the password on your own do not disclose the password to the persons working for the service establishments.
  8. Sign on the reverse of the card immediately on the receipt of the same.
  9. As a marketing activity, many banks have implemented ads. They come at the beginning and also at the end of the transactions. Especially the ads which come after transactions usually ask for user input. So to ensure safety please make sure before leaving that the screen of ATM is out of transaction mode.

Precautions while using Internet Banking service

  1. Always access the internet bank from official bank website.
  2. Don’t share your internet booking user ID or password or any other personal information to anyone.
  3. Always change your internet banking password from time to time
  4. Keep your internet banking password a mix of alpha numeric and special characters.
  5. While entering into on-line transactions always check the credibility of the online payment gateway. All payment gateways have their verification logos and digital SSL certificates on the page.
  6. Whenever a transactions fails on the internet intimate the bank of the same. It will help in avoiding any duplicate charges that may arise while completing the transactions.
  7. Never do financial transactions in cyber-cafes. There’s always a risk of keyloggers in place there.
