Earlier Fashion showed us the insides of the fashion world and now its time for Luck by Chance to foray into the famous film industry.
The movie is based on two struggling actors finding their way into the stardom. We all are aware of the latest happenings in the industry through gossips; this film takes you to the other window to show you the same thing. Several prominent personalities from the film world can be seen in the film here and there, out of all Hrithik Roshan (Zafar Khan) plays a key role in the film.
The film revolves around Vikram Jaisingh (Farhan Akhtar), who after formally pursuing acting from Nanda Kishore Acting School lands up in the bandwagon of struggling actors in the industry. On the other side we have Sona Mishra (Konkona Sen Sharma), a girl from a small town, Kanpur, but her dreams aren’t as small as the town itself.
Well this type of film catch the fancy of some people but I felt something was missing. I was intent more on my popcorn rather than watching the film and would not mind to go out and answer a few phone calls. I think the people who are at the back end of the movie tried to do Synthesis of a massy subject with a classy touch.
This film stars Farhan Akhtar, Juhi Chawla, Dimple Kapadia, Rishi Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, Alyy Khan, Arjun Mathur, Hrithik Roshan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Isha Sharvani and Saurabh Shukla.
After watching Rock on , the expectations from Farhan Akhtar were quite high. He did only acting but missed to feel the character, sometimes even while shooting a song the moves were looking artificial in nature and dialogue delivery was in same lines of a lay man.
Konkona Sen Sharma ( Sona Mishra ), who portrayed a small town girl who thinks of doing big in life. Falls like a prey in many hands and ends up in serials after losing many attempts to get in to the world of fame and stardom. Her acting was sensible and she was able to mould her character to different moods of the film.
Isha Sharvani ( Niki Walia ), the Gapuchi girl amazed me by handling the two shades of her character where one is behaving like a typical momma’s girl and on the other side clever enough to do things which she likes under the eyes of her mom without letting her know. She did an impressive job. Once you watch the movie you will know what I am talking about.
Hrithik Roshan ( Zafar Khan ) as the great actor who receives Rs 50,000 for his first movie and is still paying tax for that even though he became very successful in the industry. His role was to act like a selfish actor who can even make fool of the person who actually introduced him into movies. We already know about his acting and dancing skills and he does the same with perfection. Although his character had negative shades, he pulled the character off with brilliance.
Rishi Kapoor ( Romy Rolly ), who plays the role of a veteran director. He is famous but no one likes to act in his film and even Vivek Oberoi says no to his film. He did a splendid job and played both the coins very well. He passed few jokes when ever required and even cried when demanded and all of them with ease.
Dimple Kapadia (Neena Wallia), the crocodile in a siphon sari. Her role was more towards the nature of a manipulator who saw many ups and downs in her own life and does not want the same thing to happen with her daughter Niki Walia. Till ¾ of the movie everyone saw her as –Ve character but the after-the-magazine incident she made the camera to concentrate on her. She was able to do heart touching scenes without any hassle.
As you can see some veteran actors who were away from the camera for a while were able to do the job offered to them really well as compared to those with constant touch with the camera.
Rest of the characters include Sourabh Shukla (of Nanda Kishore Acting School), Arjun Mathur ( Abhimanyu , the jealous friend of Vikram Jaisingh), Alyy Khan ( Chaudhary of Pinky Productions), Anurag Kashyap (Content stealer), Sanjay Kapoor ( Ranjit Rolly , the unsuccessful actor cum director), Juhi Chawla ( Minty Rolly wife of Romy Rolly ) and many more who did their jobs considerably good.
Here is how my interest level was at various parts of the movie.
Coming to direction, this was Zoya’s first directorial debut. She worked hard for the movie and I came to know that she was working on this movie for 6 long years. I liked her style of presenting situations but the only thing I was not happy with was her attempt in showing many characters in a single shot which I felt was unnecessary. And for a debutant, this marks to be one of the finest works and she should be appreciated for this attempt.
On the whole, somewhere or the other, I feel this movie lacks something or rather my expectations were quite high for this film. But this turned out to be exactly what Max Muller told in his poem ‘Expectations’.
I know that this might come as a shocker to many of you but that’s what I felt after watching this film. I am not a critic and only a regular movie-buff.
