Narsee Monjee IMS – NMAT : Admissions for Full-Time MBA Batch (2008-2010)

Program Introduction : This is a two –year full time programme, spread over six trimesters and leading to the degree in Master of Business Administration. The most notable features of the programme are its flexibility and objectives of providing a genuinely broad based education. Students are given an opportunity to improve their communication skills in a well equipped, modern language lab with computers and cassettes. Special classes in French, German, and Spanish are also offered to prepare students for international careers. Annual Seminar, CEO series of guest lectures, business simulation games, personal growth lab, psychological profiling, personality development workshops (MBTI), create all round development for students. Final year students have a variety of specializations to choose from, depending on their aptitude and preferences and have the freedom to choose from a large number of electives every trimester. They can choose non – credit courses and cross – disciplinary free choice subjects, to suit their individual preferences. NMIMS currently has overseas links with the University of EUROMED Marseille in France, ESC ROUEN in France and with ESSCA at both its campuses, i.e. Angers in France and Budapest in Hungary. The exchange covers faculty members as well as students from these places. Several scholarships schemes and research assistantships are also available. Summer Project Requirement: To build the bridge between theory and practice, students are required to spend 6 – 8 weeks on a summer project between the 1st and the 2nd year of the full – time MBA programme. These projects carry 100 marks, which become part of the 4th trimester grades.

Program Objectives : This is a two –year full time programme, spread over six trimesters and leading to the degree in Master of Business Administration. The programme seeks to train students to become decision makers with social sensitivity, broad strategic vision, and capability of assuming higher corporate responsibility and marked degree of flexibility in interpersonal relationships.

Pedagogy : The Institute believes that self – learning is the best means of learning, especially at the post – graduate level, and accordingly, faculty should act as facilitators more than teachers. A great deal of emphasis is therefore placed on experiential learning. Students are required to work on a number of corporate and academic research projects during the two years they are on campus. In addition, teaching is heavily oriented towards case studies, presentations, quizzes, assignments, field – visits, worships and labs. A variety of seminars are organized by students and faculty members during the academic session. There is a strong belief that at the Institute in ‘learning by doing’ and that a true management education goes beyond the classroom. The students are therefore exposed to ‘non – management’ programmes like yoga, music appreciation, literature appreciation, etc; and are encouraged to participate in all co – curricular activities. Field – visits, projects and seminars in areas of social marketing are other methods employed regularly to improve the social sensitivity of students. All full time MBA students are required to carry their own laptops. The institute assists the students in obtaining bank finance for this purpose, is required.

Eligibility : 10+2+3 degree in any branch of study or equivalent pattern recognized by the UGC & AIU with minimum 50% marks in aggregate at degree level. Work Experience: Work experience in an Executive/ Management Capacity will be preferred.

Admission Criteria & Process Number of seats: 240 (15 percent seats are reserved for Management Quota). Students are admitted to the programme, if they meet the required standards of the two-stage selection process as described below:- Stage I: All eligible candidates are required to appear for NMAT (National Management Aptitude Test) to be conducted over 20 centres across the country. Stage II: Those shortlisted and have applied for the subsequent selection process, will have to appear for Group Discussion / Computer based test / Presentation & Personal Interview at select centres across the country. Merit list of successful candidates for Stage II as well as the final merit list will be displayed on the website (www.nmims.edu) and on the Institute’s Notice Board.
