Bands are not the usual group of people who sing just for money but they are the one who always tends to do something that no one has ever done. It gives them so much pleasure in entertaining the crowds and energizing everyone present there.
‘Magik' is one such band comprising of Aditya Shroff(Farhan Akhtar), Joe(Arjun Rampal), KD(Purab kohli) and Rob(Luke Kenny). They rock, they stay together at all times and what else even they sacrifice things for each other. But things take a bad shape when Joe and Adi ends up fighting during a video shooting.
The rest was a routine fare and everyone dispered, one was programming music for Anu Malik, the other was selling jewellery, the other one was sitting idle at home and the last one was simply working as a professional working in a financial firm. Leaving no traces of their past and their glory, they proceed forward but Adi's wife, Sakshi(Prachi Desai) comes to know about their past and she tries to unite them all. She organizes parties, etc and finally they reunite to complete their incomplete ballad at the channel V Rock music competetion. But with more emotional depth and tensed situations, they tussle with life and rock the entire nation with their power packed reunion.
Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal ,Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli, all did a fantastic job and mixed with the rock bandwagon nicely. And also the makeup and the hair styles complimenting their rock feel. Prachi Desai comes as a breezer as an innocent wife of Aditya, who has only one aim to see her husband happy. Debbie(Sahaana Goswami) as responsible wife of Joe did a wonderful job and maintained the character graph all throughout the film.
The film not only highlights the rock band but also shows the friendship between four friends and how emotionally distressed they become when they all get seperated from each other. This movie has several heart touching moments accompanied by some rocking moments. This movie also has several inspirations from Farhan's earlier film ‘Dil Chahta Hai'.
This film would'nt have been as it is now without a wonderful music and background score. Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy came up with one of the best products in their careers with this soundtrack. Staying loyal to the rock genre, they made this album much more appealing. The music is sure to get more recognition now as the movie has already released and rocking the nation.
Abhishek Kapoor sticks to basic narration and takes the movie on a joy ride. His earlier movie Aryan was based on boxing which is also a subject which is of least interest in India and now he is back with rock which goes the same way but this might change with this movie.
The movie also boasts several other technical aspects like cinematography and camera work. These departments are inter-related to one other and thus come up with a vibrant and colourful theme. The sets for concerts are neat, vibrant and appealing. All this glory can be seen in the climax concert sequences.
Please note this movie isn't just rock and its components but it has got the relation between friends and several heart filling moments. Don't just ignore this as a silly rock movie. Even if you don't like rock music, its a must watch.
On the whole, this movie is bound to rock the nation and its quite evident by the buzz at the ticket counter. It's a must watch for all the movie patrons and to those who love rock music and the most – their friends.
